The perfect use case a multi-language work environment (think English and French in Canada) or an international company. Since there can only be one default language which is locked (set) when the site is first created using the step above, you might need to add an alternate one.

Once you create a new subsite, it will be created in the language you have chosen.

As soon as you choose another language, template names get translated into the language of your choice.

Choose a default language for the site you are creating.

Navigate to the Template Selection language drop-down.

Gear Icon > Site Contents > New > Subsite.
